March 31, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, convened an emergency high-level security meeting in Abuja, directing security and intelligence chiefs to intensify operations and ensure swift justice following the deadly attack in Plateau State.
The President also invited the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, for urgent consultations to strengthen coordination between federal and state authorities in addressing the security challenges and preventing further escalation of violence in the state.
The meeting comes in the wake of Sunday’s attack in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area, which left at least 30 persons dead and several others injured, prompting nationwide concern and renewed calls for security reinforcement in affected areas.
Briefing State House correspondents in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the President’s intervention underscores the seriousness with which the Federal Government is treating the incident and its commitment to restoring peace and stability.
According to him, President Tinubu directed security agencies to ensure the immediate identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible for the attack, stressing that there will be no safe haven for criminal elements anywhere in the country.
Idris disclosed that security agencies, including troops under Operation Enduring Peace, were swiftly deployed to the scene following distress calls, successfully containing the situation and launching search-and-clearance operations to track down the perpetrators.
He added that the affected area was immediately cordoned off, with key access routes secured and joint military-police patrols intensified to prevent reprisal attacks and restore calm across surrounding communities.
The Minister further explained that ongoing intelligence-led operations and reinforced surveillance have been expanded across Plateau State and other vulnerable parts of the North-Central region as part of broader efforts to neutralise threats and strengthen public safety.
He stressed that while the incident is deeply regrettable, it does not represent a breakdown of national security, noting that the Federal Government remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the country through sustained military operations and inter-agency coordination.
The Plateau State Government has also implemented a 48-hour curfew in Jos North as part of immediate stabilisation measures, while working closely with federal security agencies to prevent further violence and support ongoing investigations.
Reassuring Nigerians, the Federal Government urged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and to avoid the spread of unverified information, while reaffirming its resolve to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to justice without delay.
According to the briefing, President Tinubu remains firmly committed to a coordinated national response that will deliver lasting peace and security in Plateau State and across the country.
