April 12, (THEWILL) – A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has condemned as “barbaric and unacceptable” the continuous killing of Plateau citizens in rural communities by blood-thirsty criminals.
In a press statement in Jos, Mutfwang said the recent killings at Chando Zerreci, Rantis, and five villages in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas, were organised and coordinated, and becoming too repeated.
He frowned upon the killing of innocent citizens who are basically farmers and appealed to the security agencies to step up efforts to curb the menace of these marauding killers.
The aspirant also condemned the April 2, terror attacks on villagers at Chando Zerreci village during an annual festival to usher in the 2022 farming season, noting that during these attacks, several lives were lost, and about 19 persons were reportedly severely injured as a result of gunshots.
Mutfwang noted further that “after this unholy act, some gunmen unleashed another terror on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on April 5, 2022, at Rantis, Gashish in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, and killed 2 people, while others sustained injuries.”
“According to Mutfwang, “this criminality continues because the government has refused to take deliberate steps towards addressing the plights of these helpless and homeless people.”
“As if that is not enough”, he noted further, “some bandits also invaded villages in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas and killed scores of people.”
Thus, he reiterated that “I condemn in totality these senseless killings and call on both the Federal and Plateau State Governments to wake up and take serious their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and properties in the state.”
He also called on Plateau citizens to rally against the ravaging insecurity, kidnappings, and other criminal activities that are generating bad publicity, and creating a cog in the wheel of economic growth and development of the state.
