
January 27, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man for unlawful possession of a firearm, threatening violence, and possession of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The suspect, identified as Blessing Ime Abel, a native of Ikot Akpa Ntuen Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area, was arrested following a complaint lodged by one Emekpo, who reported a case of threat to life.
Police operatives, acting on the report, swiftly mobilised to the area and apprehended the suspect. A search conducted at the time of arrest led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm and uncover the full extent of his activities.
The Police Command confirmed that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for crimes involving firearms and threats to public safety, assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
The Police also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
