May 07, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping and violent crimes with the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Rukubi Community, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with other security agencies, local vigilante groups and community youths, followed a distress report received in the early hours of Thursday, May 7.
According to police authorities, armed hoodlums had invaded the community on the night of May 6, shooting sporadically and creating panic among residents.
During the attack, the assailants reportedly stormed the homes of two residents and abducted two victims to an unknown destination.
Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command mobilised to the affected area and launched coordinated tactical operations aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and rescuing the victims.
The operation led to the arrest of eight suspects believed to be connected to the attack.
The suspects were identified as Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa, all said to be from Rugan Alhaji Alfa in Rukubi Village.
Police also recovered two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles allegedly used by the suspects, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells linked to the incident.
The Force further disclosed that one of the suspects sustained fatal injuries during an encounter with security operatives and was later confirmed dead while receiving medical treatment.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the gallantry, professionalism and rapid response demonstrated by the operatives involved in the operation.
The IGP described the successful operation as further evidence of the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, inter-agency cooperation and community partnership in the fight against violent crimes across the country.
He also appreciated the support and cooperation of sister security agencies, local vigilante groups, community youths and residents whose assistance, according to him, greatly contributed to the success of the operation.
The police reiterated their commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements nationwide, assuring Nigerians that efforts were being intensified to curb kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes threatening public safety.
Force Public Relations Officer, AnthonyPlacid, who confirmed the development in a statement issued from Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, said investigations were ongoing while efforts were being intensified to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
