June 5 (THEWILL) — The Ogun Police Command has arrested seven suspects for armed robbery and conduct likely to cause breach of peace in an intelligence-driven operation across Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba and Agbado axis of the state.
In Sango-Ota, the police arrested three suspects for allegedly robbing residents of the Alasia community of their valuables and recovered one locally made pistol from them.
The suspects are: Pelumi Akintande, 21; Mojeed Sanusi, 28; and Mubarak Lateef, 17.
The suspects were alleged to have been involved in an attack on a resident, during which valuables were forcibly stolen
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Babaseyi stated that the operatives of Sango-Ota Division, acting on prompt response and credible information from members of the public, swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspects.
“A locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and one expended cartridge allegedly used in the operation were recovered.”
The Police PRO said the investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
In Owode-Egba, The police also arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Damilare Makanjuola, for alleged burglary and stealing at the Ofada axis of the area.
Babaseyi said that the suspect was arrested after allegedly scaling a fence and attempting to gain unlawful access into a shop.
“Further investigation linked him to other reported burglary incidents within Sun City Estate, Ofada, where electrical items, cash above ₦100,000, and personal valuables were allegedly stolen.”
Items recovered have been secured as exhibits, while the investigation continues.
Similarly, at Owode-Egba, the police arrested two suspects for alleged conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village.
The Police PRO named the suspects to be Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22.
“The suspects were intercepted while attempting to dispose of stolen electrical appliances concealed in a sack, allegedly removed from a residential property within the estate”, he said.
Babaseyi added that the stolen items were recovered intact, and preliminary investigation indicates forced entry into the premises.
Relatedly, in Agbado, police have arrested a 22-year-old, Waris Adebesin, for alleged conduct likely to cause breach of peace and threatening violence.
Babaseyi said that the suspect was allegedly found armed with a knife while creating tension and disrupting access around a secondary school environment.
“The swift intervention of the Police prevented escalation of panic, restored calm, and ensured the safety of students, staff and members of the public”, he noted
The Police PRO said that the knife was recovered at the point of arrest.
He said that the suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the various incidents.
Recovered exhibits have been duly documented and secured for evidential purposes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the gallant operatives for their professionalism, swift response, and disciplined conduct throughout the operations.
Ojajuni appreciated members of the public for their vigilance and timely information, which significantly contributed to the successful outcomes recorded.
He assured residents that the achievements form part of a sustained, statewide security strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace across Ogun State.
The CP equally sympathised with affected victims and assured them that justice will be pursued diligently and without compromise.
He urged people to remain vigilant and support the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
