April 19, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a 27-year-old man, identified as Okon, in the Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.

Police said the incident occurred in Iko Udo Obobo Village, where the victim was found lifeless in his room. Operatives, acting on credible intelligence, moved swiftly to the scene, secured the area, and commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, preliminary findings suggest the case involves homicide, while further inquiries are ongoing to establish all the facts.

The Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Idem Etim and Namkere Ikoboatang, who are currently in custody and assisting investigators.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has directed a thorough investigation, assuring that all individuals connected to the incident will be identified and brought to justice in line with the law.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and warned that criminal activities will not be tolerated in the state.

In a related development, the Commissioner also cautioned officers and men of the Command against disobeying lawful directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with senior officers, CP Azare expressed concern over reports of indiscipline and emphasised the need for strict adherence to the chain of command.

He noted that any act of insubordination or misconduct would attract disciplinary measures, including internal review processes and possible sanctions.

The Commissioner further directed supervising officers to ensure compliance within their formations, stressing that leadership accountability remains key to effective policing

The Command assured residents of its dedication to professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
