July 14, (THEWILL) — The Plateau State Police Command has declared six suspects wanted in connection with the brutal mob killing of wedding guests in the Mangun District of Mangu Local Government Area on June 21, 2025.
The victims, who were travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to attend a wedding in Quan Pa’an LGA of Plateau State, reportedly lost their way and mistakenly entered Mangun, a community that had recently suffered attacks by bandits and terrorists. Mistaking the travellers for assailants, local youths attacked their vehicle, setting it on fire and killing about 22 passengers, including women and children, out of the 31 onboard.
In swift response, the police arrested 22 suspects. Twenty of them were arraigned in court last Friday on multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, armed robbery, and culpable homicide. They have since been remanded to the Jos Correctional Centre.
While addressing journalists on Sunday, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, said six more suspects remain at large. According to intelligence reports, these individuals are believed to be the masterminds of the attack and the ones who incited the mob.
“I am pleased to announce to you that due to the diligent and swift operation of our men, we have arrested twenty-two (22) suspects, while six (6) suspects are still at large.
“We are doing everything within the ambit of our constitutional powers to ensure that all those involved in the perpetration of this evil and inhuman act are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law”, Adesina assured.
