Police Decorate 87 Promoted Officers In Bayelsa

August 15, (THEWILL) – The Bayelsa State Police Command has decorated a total of 87 officers, who were promoted from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II) with their new ranks.

Addressing the newly promoted officers at the State Police Officers Mess on Thursday, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Alonyenu Francis Idu, charged them to be professional in the course of discharging their duties.

According to him, they have to first superintend themselves before others, urging them to continue to maintain discipline at all times.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the newly promoted officers, ASP II Umar B Mohammed, expressed his gratitude to God Almighty and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

He also appreciated the State Commissioner of Police for always playing a fatherly role to all the officers in the command, saying this motivation would encourage them to do their duties diligently.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Bayelsa State chapter, Mrs. Ada Ene Alonyenu, has joined others to celebrate POWA at 60.

The Chairperson urged members of the association to support their husbands and manage their homes diligently.

She also observed that Police officers, particularly those in Bayelsa State, are oftentimes deployed to the riverine communities to combat crimes and usually stay away from home for long periods, and advised the POWA members to pay close attention to the children and bring them uprightly.

The state POWA boss also commiserated with the Government and people of Bayelsa State over the loss of over 20 people in a boat mishap, some of whose bodies were recovered today August 9, at Ekeni, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The Bayelsa State Chairperson also thanked the POWA President, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, for marking the historic event of celebrating POWA at 60 and equally commended her for the giant strides she is making in repositioning POWA at the national level.
