April 28, (THEWILL) — All fourteen victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways have been safely rescued in a coordinated joint operation between the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The rescue, carried out without any loss of life, followed sustained intelligence-gathering, intensified surveillance, and targeted operations across identified criminal flashpoints within the maritime corridor. Security agencies mounted significant pressure on the kidnappers, ultimately securing the victims’ release.
Authorities confirmed that the rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing procedures before being reunited with their families.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the professionalism and operational synergy between the police and EFCC, noting that the success highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling complex security threats, particularly in Nigeria’s coastal regions.
Security forces have also intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible for the abduction. The police assured the public that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, the command said security presence along the waterways has been strengthened, urging residents and maritime operators to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
Authorities also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, emphasising that coordinated enforcement actions will persist against illegal activities in the region.
