April 21, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged professional misconduct, in a move authorities say is aimed at reinforcing internal discipline and restoring public confidence in the institution.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said, the exercise, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is being conducted by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).
The Force Disciplinary Committee, a critical internal oversight body, is tasked with examining cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above.
Its mandate includes ensuring that all allegations are subjected to a thorough, transparent, and impartial review process in line with established laws and regulations.
Findings and recommendations from the Committee are subsequently forwarded to the Police Service Commission, which retains the statutory authority to make final determinations on disciplinary actions.
Reaffirming the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, stressed that no officer found wanting would be shielded from due process.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism. Any officer found culpable of misconduct will face the full weight of the law,” the IGP stated.
He further emphasized that the ongoing proceedings are part of a broader institutional reform agenda aimed at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical conduct, and restoring public trust in the Force.
