March 20, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects over alleged involvement in attempted murder, malicious damage and cult-related activities in Uruk Anam Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were apprehended on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong village, following what the police described as a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement that the operation followed the approval of a petition bordering on violent crimes and cultism.
Those arrested were identified as John Samson, 45; Emmanuel Asuquo, 50; Idorenyin Umoh, 22; and Okon Akpan, 70.
According to the police, weapons recovered from the suspects include one locally fabricated pistol and two long guns, allegedly linked to their criminal activities.
The Command described the arrests as a major operational breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes and dismantle criminal networks in the state.
It assured residents that the situation in the area remains calm, with adequate security measures in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The police added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the process.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to tackle crime.
