April 14, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Ondo Police Command, have arrested a suspected kidnapper who was tracked through a head injury inflicted by his victim, following a swift operation that also led to the rescue of the abducted victim in Isua Akoko.
The arrest, which underscores the growing reliance on intelligence-led policing, was carried out by operatives of the Isua Division under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
A statement signed on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the operation was triggered by a report filed on April 10, 2026, by a complainant, Ahmadu, who informed the police that two young men who had travelled to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing were missing, with one unaccounted for.
Acting promptly, the police launched a coordinated operation, leading to the safe rescue of the missing individual, who had been kidnapped.
In his account, the victim revealed that he was abducted at night by three suspects.
He added that during the struggle, he resisted and struck one of the kidnappers, inflicting a head injury—an action that later proved crucial in tracking down the suspect.
“Acting on credible information from the victim, operatives stormed Obasanjo Motor Park, Isua, at about 0609hrs, where a suspicious individual with a visible head injury was apprehended,” the statement said.
The police disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime. The victim also positively identified him, specifically citing the injury he had inflicted during the abduction.
The rescued victim has been taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.
The Command confirmed that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, as efforts continue to track down other members of the gang still at large.
The Commissioner of Police commended residents for providing timely and actionable intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in addressing kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, noting that sustained strategic guidance from the police leadership has strengthened operational response across the state.
The Command reiterated its resolve to intensify the crackdown on kidnapping networks and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information.
