June 24 (THEWILL) — The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers, rescued an abducted victim unharmed, and recovered N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of crime during a sustained anti-kidnapping operation across the state.
The Command disclosed on Wednesday that operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully secured the release of a victim who was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State, following an intensive intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim regained freedom on June 18 after a coordinated effort involving surveillance, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments aimed at locating the kidnappers and ensuring the victim’s safe rescue.
Babaseyi said the police immediately activated the Anti-Kidnapping Unit upon receiving information about the abduction and deployed intelligence and operational assets to track the perpetrators and dismantle the criminal network behind the incident.
He explained that after securing the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend members of the gang responsible for the crime.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the State. On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape,” he said.
The confrontation resulted in a gun battle between the suspects and the police.
During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2.2 million cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The police said investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, described the operation as a significant success in the Command’s ongoing campaign against kidnapping and violent crimes.
He said the feat underscored the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-driven policing and proactive security operations.
Ojajuni reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal elements and assured residents of the command’s resolve to sustain robust tactical operations and strengthen collaboration with communities to improve security across the state.
The commissioner also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at ridding the state of criminality.
