February 15, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have raided a suspected drug den in Itam, Itu Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and recovering substances believed to be hard drugs and weapons.
The operation, carried out on February 14, 2026, at about 11:35 a.m., took place at Ntak Inyang along the Calabar–Itu Highway, following sustained efforts by the command to curb criminal activities in the state.
Police arrested one Akin Robert, a native of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, during the raid.
According to the command, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a dagger, a pair of scissors, and the sum of N46,500, believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is undergoing further investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said the action aligns with the command’s resolve to rid the state of drug-related crimes and other activities that threaten public safety.
The command reiterated its call on residents to provide credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations, assuring that efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state would be sustained.
