July 01, (THEWILL) — The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, in collaboration with operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, has rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was trafficked into Nigeria under false pretences.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the rescue operation was carried out on June 27, 2025, following actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana, on June 16.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on January 10, 2025, the victim’s father, Mr. Nartey Louda, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 by a trafficker identified simply as Attah. The suspect had falsely promised to secure a French visa and other travel documents for Iddrisu.
Based on this fraudulent arrangement, the victim was instructed to travel to Abuja, Nigeria, with the expectation of receiving his travel documents.
However, upon arriving in Abuja on June 25, he was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in internet-based scams linked to the QNET pyramid scheme — a fraudulent operation disguised as an e-commerce platform.
The syndicate also targeted other unsuspecting individuals, including another Ghanaian who escaped and returned to Ghana, where he reported the matter to authorities. This triggered an international rescue collaboration involving INTERPOL.
The statement noted that a coordinated effort involving surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid police response led to Iddrisu’s rescue. Efforts are currently underway to facilitate his safe return and reintegration.
INTERPOL NCB Abuja has since launched an investigation to apprehend those behind the trafficking scheme and ensure they are prosecuted.
The police urged the public to be cautious and verify travel-related offers through official diplomatic or immigration channels.
Citizens were also encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
