March 20, (THEWILL) – The newly appointed Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, assumed duties on Thursday.
Ibas, who was appointed Administrator on Tuesday, following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers, was sworn in on Wednesday, at the State House in Abuja by President Bola Tinubu.
Vice Admiral Ibas arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport at about 11:27 a.m. in a 5N-ARA bombardier aircraft and immediately headed to Government House in Port Harcourt. There, he held a closed-door meeting with the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Permanent Secretaries, and Heads of Security agencies, including the Director of Energy Security in the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Ojukaye Flag Amachree.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ibas commended the manner residents in the State had conducted themselves peacefully.
“Thank you for what you’ve been doing so far. You all know that I just got in here and decided to meet with the Head of the service, the permanent secretaries and the service commanders.
“I’m going to have to meet with them to get formal briefings from all those I met this afternoon.
“And then, I believe it is only proper for me thereafter to have something to say to you all and I assure you that perhaps later this evening I’ll be in the right position to address you and then address the issues that you may want to raise now.
“Port Harcourt is my city and everything appears calm and though I know that this situation is there, we just want Port Harcourt to get back to what it has always been”, he said.
