February 26, (THEWILL) – The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, has called on the newly elected executives of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to prioritise transparency and other essential leadership values in managing the union’s affairs.
Dairo urged the new leadership to prioritise values such as decency, dedication, accountability, honesty, and unity to ensure smooth governance of the union and progress in the transportation sector.
He spoke at the 2025 election and inauguration ceremony of the new executive members at the RTEAN Secretariat, Obantoko, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
The commissioner, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Olufodun Moibi, underscored the importance of shared responsibility in leadership and encouraged all members to contribute to the association’s progress.
“Leadership is a call to service, and I commend you all for stepping forward to serve the members of this esteemed association. As you assume office, I urge you to lead with decency, dedication, transparency, and unity”, he noted.
Dairo, however, called on the union’s leadership to support Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration by implementing the Strategic Transportation Master Plan for the improved transportation system in the state.
He stressed that the government’s efforts on the master plan were to enhance road transport safety, reliability, accessibility, and sustainability for residents, visitors and businesses in the state.
Earlier, the National President of RTEAN, Dr Muhammad Musa, highlighted RTEAN’s origin as the Nigeria Motor Transport Union in 1933 before evolving into the Nigeria Motor Transport Owners Union and, eventually, RTEAN.
Musa commended the union members for their cooperation in the electoral processes and stressed that unity remains crucial for progress and stability within the association.
He said, “RTEAN is the umbrella body for all commercial vehicle owners in Nigeria. Our objectives, as stated in the constitution, include organising and maintaining orderly vehicle loading, ensuring Passenger safety in motor parks and on the roads and fostering a peaceful transport environment.”
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the re-elected Ogun State RTEAN Chairman, Alhaji Titilayo Akibu, alongside 18 other Executive Members.
Those who graced the event include the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wasiu Igbalaye, Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Abiodun Adebiyi and Chairman of Parks and Garages Development Board, Alhaji Lukman Adunmo, as well as Security Chiefs and other dignitaries.
