May 17, (THEWILL) – The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that he has reached a resolution to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party.
Describing the reports as baseless and politically motivated, Kwankwaso said the rumours were products of “political mischief” and fabrications intended to mislead the public.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the former Kano State governor reiterated that he had deliberately refrained from commenting on ongoing political developments and would continue to maintain that stance for now.
The viral misinformation had claimed that Kwankwaso met with President Bola Tinubu on several occasions and was urged to return to the APC fold.
The statement, said to be signed by one Ibrahim Rabiu, alleged that a resolution had been reached between Kwankwaso and APC stakeholders.
Reacting, the NNPP chieftain disowned the statement, insisting he never authorised or approved any such communication.
He wrote, “My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria.
“I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.
“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and I will continue to do so for the time being.
“In this regard, I urge the public to only engage with statements that come from my official social media handles and other recognised channels.”
