September 07, (THEWILL) — A Professor of Mass Communication at the Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, Kevin Alom, has challenged youths from Agasha community in Guma local Government area of Benue State, to return to school to acquire formal education in order to liberate themselves and the society.
Professor Alom, who is the Head of Department of Journalism and Media Studies, threw the challenge at a thanksgiving service held at NKST Church, Agasha, on Sunday, explaining that he decided to come and hold the service in his village for the youths in the community to see the importance of education.
While indicating his willingness to assist those intending to further their studies to realise their potential, added that it also afford his friends and associates to known where he hails from.
He appealed to people of Nongov extraction to release their children to acquire formal education no matter at what age they are, and charged people of the area to eschew violence and embrace peace for the community to witness growth and development.
Professor Alom, therefore, pledged to support the church at all times, saying the Thanksgiving was organise to appreciate God for his elevation to the rank of professor at the Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi.
In his speech, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Prof. Simon Ubwa, described Prof. Alom as a Scholoar of high pedigree whose elevation will impact positively on research, teaching and learning in the university.
Represented by the Deputy Dean, Falcauty of Communication and Media Studies, Associate Prof. Ben Ogbu, the Vice Chancellor noted that Prof. Alom is a very humble scholar who intertacts freely across social divides.
The Tor Lobi, HRH, Chief Moses Anagende, warned youths from Nongov against criminality, calling on the church to intensify prayers to end such act.
Chief Anagende, therefore, challenge youths to emulate Alom who have attain Professorial height at a tender age and is returning to his roots.
Ter Guma, HRH, Chief Dennis Shemberga, advised youths in the area in the habit of bringing the community into disrepute to desist or face the wrath of the law, while Acting Mue Ter Nongov, Chief Samuel Ger, noted the height attained by the community with over fifteen professors.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Moses Orshio Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, Dr Stephen Hwande, said, governor Hyacinth Alia is upgrading facilities at the teaching hospital to save lives.
Dr Hwande commended Professor Alom for remembering to return to God for the Thanksgiving, and pledged to refurbished the abandoned church bus, and also assist in building the stores for the church to raise it internal revenue for evangalisation.
Earlier, the chairman of Central Planning Committee, Mr Richard Ngyishe, noted that Alom did not change from what he was even with his educational attainment in life, hence the need to organise the Thanksgiving in his honor.
