May 05, (THEWILL) – Hundreds of youths on Monday staged a protest in Abuja, demanding the immediate release of Nigerian social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The protest began at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Jabi, from where the demonstrators marched to GTBank and later the National Human Rights Commission.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Activism is not a crime,” “VDM is the masses’ liberator,” and chanting slogans like “#FreeVDM,” “He’s not a thief, release VDM,” and “Carry Yahaya Bello, bring VDM,” the protesters decried what they described as an unjust arrest.
THEWILL reports that VDM was arrested on Friday by operatives of the EFCC shortly after visiting a GTBank branch in Area 3, Garki, Abuja.
His arrest reportedly followed multiple petitions accusing him of cyberstalking.
