The Benue State Security Council has advised the state government to make provision for satellite phones and Internet-based communication radios/gadgets, especially to the communities where there are no mobile communication networks to enhance quick transmission of information to security operatives for quick action.
Rising from a four-hour meeting held at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi on Friday, the council also recommended that community members should be encouraged to be watchful and provide security surveillance in their areas and transmit information to the relevant authorities.
The Benue State Deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu, who read the communique after the meeting, explained that the Council further asked stakeholders to note that the Anti-open grazing law is still in existence in Benue State and all must respect this fact and abide by the law.
“All stakeholders, especially law enforcement agencies, should show sincerity in the implementation/enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Law currently in place in the state”.
According to the communique, emphasis now should be on the prevention of attack by Fulani Herdsmen rather than the reactionary approach.
