March 20, (THEWILL) — Providus Bank has successfully met the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalisation benchmark, confirming a new capital base of ₦65 billion, the lender announced on Thursday.
The move aligns Providus Bank with the apex bank’s regulatory requirement for commercial banks to maintain a minimum capital base, ensuring financial stability and supporting growth in Nigeria’s banking sector.
In a statement, the bank highlighted that the recapitalisation enhances its capacity to fund critical sectors of the economy, expand digital banking services, and improve customer experience across its network.
“Achieving this milestone is a testament to our strong governance, operational efficiency, and commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions to our customers”, the statement said.
Financial analysts say the increased capital base positions Providus Bank to compete more effectively with larger banks in the Nigerian market, while also enabling it to absorb economic shocks and expand lending activities.
The CBN’s recapitalisation framework is part of broader efforts to strengthen the banking system, enhance investor confidence, and promote sustainable growth in Nigeria’s financial sector. Providus Bank joins a growing list of institutions that have met the threshold, reflecting resilience and adaptability in a dynamic market environment.
