August 6, (THEWILL) — The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a major reshuffle of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, appointing a new Commandant for the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and deploying eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to strategic state commands across the country.
The Commission said the latest postings were aimed at sustaining operational efficiency, strengthening command structures and ensuring seamless policing following the elevation of several former state commissioners to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
A statement issued by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, stated that the decisions were taken during a meeting of the Commission presided over by Justice Paul Galumje (Rtd), Board Member and Commissioner I.
Experienced Officer Takes Charge of Police Academy
The Commission approved the deployment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Auwal Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, one of Nigeria’s premier institutions responsible for training future police officers.
According to the PSC, Mohammed brings over 33 years of distinguished service in policing, with extensive experience in operations, criminal investigations, intelligence-led policing and police training. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano.

During his career, he has served in several strategic positions, including Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zones 3 and 6.
The Commission also noted that he is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), reflecting his exposure to international policing standards and professional best practices.

Eight States Get New Police Commissioners
As part of the exercise, the PSC approved the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to head commands in different states of the federation.
The newly posted CPs are: Afolabi Olutokunbo (Abia State), Ayodeji Faniyan (Plateau State), Saka Ajao (Bayelsa State), Ajo Ordue (Cross River State), Nnanna Ama (Anambra State), Patrick Daaor (Edo State), Tijani Murtala (Jigawa State) and Samuel Erale Etaifo (Delta State).
The commission explained that the appointments became necessary after the former Commissioners of Police in the affected states were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.

It said the redeployments were designed to prevent leadership gaps, sustain operational momentum and ensure continuity in policing and public safety across the affected commands.
Justice Galumje urged the newly deployed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by exhibiting exemplary leadership and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He charged them to remain firm in enforcing the law without fear or favour, uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, maintain political neutrality, and strengthen public trust through diligent and transparent policing.
Galumje further reminded the officers that their appointments come at a period of heightened security concerns across the country, requiring unwavering commitment to intelligence-driven policing, crime prevention and the protection of lives and property.
He stressed that the Commission expects the officers to work closely with communities and other security agencies in addressing emerging security threats while respecting citizens’ rights.
