August 14, (THEWILL) — The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday met with representatives of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to fine-tune plans for a transparent and credible 2025 recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting, held at the Parry Osayande Auditorium in Abuja, was chaired by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), who said the Commission would work closely with state governments to ensure equity and fairness in the recruitment of Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Constables.
Argungu urged states to safeguard their recruitment quotas and prevent the hijack of the process. He warned against slot trading, stressing that the exercise would be guided strictly by merit.
“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” he said.
Also speaking, retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, the Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary, said the PSC was created to uphold fairness in police recruitment and operations, and would ensure no individual or group is allowed to hijack the process.
Honourable Commissioner representing the Police, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), said the new management was committed to reinventing recruitment to produce the best Nigerian youths for the police of the nation’s dreams.
PSC Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, disclosed plans to open state offices to strengthen oversight and called for the cooperation of state governments.
