January 26, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially debunked swirling speculations regarding a planned replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Monday, January 26, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless.”
The clarification comes amid a growing media frenzy and the circulation of lists featuring potential candidates allegedly being considered to take over the Vice President’s slot.
Morka noted that while these rumors were initially subtle, they recently gained traction with the naming of specific individuals, a move the APC views as a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the Presidency and the ruling party.
“Our party states in categorical terms that these stories are intended to distract from the administration’s progress,” the statement read.
The ruling party urged media organizations to exercise professional restraint and avoid amplifying unverified reports from “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance.”
Morka further reminded political actors and the public that the ban on political activities remains in force under Nigeria’s electoral regulations, making any discourse on 2027 tickets premature.
According to the NWC, the party’s current priority is the full implementation of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The statement highlighted that the administration is presently focused on consolidating bold economic reforms, which the party claims have led to greater exchange rate stability and a steady decline in inflation over the past year.
The APC also called on ministers, senior government officials, and party stalwarts to remain focused on governance and avoid participating in or dignifying “needless speculations.”
By reinforcing its commitment to the Tinubu-Shettima partnership, the APC hopes to stabilize the political atmosphere as the administration enters the second half of its current term.
