December 22, (THEWILL) — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles recently recalled in France did not originate from Nigeria and are not registered for sale in the country.
The clarification follows a notification from the French food safety authority, Rappel Conso, which flagged the product for containing undeclared allergens—specifically milk and eggs.
These substances can pose serious health risks to consumers with specific allergies or intolerances.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC emphasised that the recalled product is neither manufactured in Nigeria nor approved for distribution in the Nigerian market.
The agency further explained that noodles are on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their legal importation into Nigeria impossible and significantly reducing the likelihood of the affected product entering the country.
Despite the ban, NAFDAC has activated proactive regulatory measures, including intensified nationwide surveillance.
Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to remain vigilant and immediately remove the product if found within their jurisdictions.
The Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on high alert to block any attempted illicit importation through the nation’s borders.
THEWILL reports that NAFDAC reassured the public that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands registered for sale in Nigeria are manufactured locally.
These products are only approved after meeting stringent regulatory standards, including full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
The agency advised consumers to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered food products, and promptly report any suspected sale or distribution of the foreign-recalled product to the nearest NAFDAC office.
