August 21, (THEWILL) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has cleaned up several public institutions as well as communities in Cross River State.
The exercise which held across countries in West Africa is the 16th edition of the Africa West Service Project.
Working with some of it’s partners, the Church provided cleaning services in many locations including health centers, Schools, roads, hospitals, drains, court premises and a host of other projects. Almost 400 members of the church participated in the exercise .
Speaking at Odukpani Local Government Education Authority, one of the venues, the Calabar North Stake President, President Akwaowo Joseph Ekong, acknowledged the essence of the annual event and noted that its impact is felt even beyond benefitting communities.
He observed that when people engage in the service of humanity they are ultimately in the Service of God and charged communities to emulate the shining example of the Church.
Alex Nkoro, president of the Calabar Nigeria Stake also led members of his Stake out to the Customary Court Egerton for cleaning, clearing and excavation.
He stressed that the Africa West Service project was absolutely important and one way God was using the Church to reach out and show love.
Similarly, Samuel Ukoha, President of Calabar South Stake welcomed the initiative of the Church.
He called on members to express the virtues of love and service in everything they do.
On his part, the Akamkpa Stake President, President Ambrose Mbia Bawan said the annual event of the Church teaches the importance of love and togetherness.
At one of the locations – Calabar Women and Children Hospital, a staff, Mrs Nkoyo Ekong Essien, expressed gratitude to the Church on behalf of management for extending this help to the hospital and urged the Church to continue with project.
She called on other organizations to emulate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, stating that this venture Will make the world a better and healthier place.
