June 12, (THEWILL) – The member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives, Barr. Ime Okon, has facilitated the construction and furnishing of six and four classroom blocks at PCN Primary School, North Itam and Technical College, Ayadehe, respectively.
Okon also facilitates the building and completion of a solar-powered borehole to supply good drinking water for the people of Afaha Udo Uko in Itu LGA Ward seven, solving many decades of lack of a potable source of water in the community.
The lawmaker, who led political stakeholders in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency to commission these projects as part of his midterm anniversary, also led the commissioning of the 1.5 km Joshua Uwah Street road, constructed with over 80 poles of Street lighting at Mbak Itam 111.
Speaking before the commencement of the commissionings, Rep. Okon noted that he always considers life-touching projects, in line with the ARISE development Agenda of the State Government and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations in delivering dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He announced that the second phase of Joshua Uwah Street has been approved for construction and facilitated by the federal government, even as construction will commence immediately after the rainy season.
According to the representative, who said he has lived in the area for over 20 years, Joshua Uwah Street serves as a service route to Itu indigenes and residents doing business around Ikot Ekpene Road axis, where the Ibom Specialist Hospital is situated, as well as the abattoir, the Hausa business community popularly called ‘Nasarawa’, and the Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene axis of the metropolis.
“As a long-time resident of Mbak Itam III in Itu Local Government Area, my familiarity with the area’s challenges influenced my decision to prioritise the Joshua Uwah Street project.
“As I speak, approval has already been secured for the extension of the road to the highway, with work expected to resume this year after the rainy season”. Okon mentioned.
He, however, promised his constant support in print in the Federal Constituency, as long as he is given the opportunity to serve.
The Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, while cutting the tape to commission the road, commended Hon. Ime Okon for what he described as a clear demonstration of effective and responsive representation.
He noted that the people of Itu have been positively impacted by the lawmaker’s efforts and expressed their collective satisfaction.
The Chairman, however, stated that the people of Itu were pleased with Hon. Okon’s performance and his support for His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, on that basis, he has affirmed that the Itu people are ready to stand by Hon. Okon, even beyond his current tenure in office.
As part of activities commemorating his second anniversary in office, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon also commissioned additional constituency projects in Itu, including: a 4-classroom block at PCN Primary School, North Itam; a solar-powered borehole at Afaha Udo Uko Itam; and a 6-classroom block at Ayadehe Technical College, among others.
There was palpable excitement at every point of the commissioning. At Afaha, a community leader, Mr Godwin Mbeke, recounted how three of their children, some years back, were involved in an accident while in search of water. Unfortunately, one of them died, the other is crippled, while one other is currently amputated.
“Hon. Ime Okon has just ended our years of sorrow with this Solar Powered Borehole.
“For this and more, the people of Afaha have unanimously agreed to support Barr. Ime Okon for a second term, come 2027”.
The ceremony drew the attendance of political leaders, stakeholders, and residents from across Itu and Ibiono Ibom, who gathered to celebrate part of the activities marking two years of visible and community-driven representation.
