June 13, (THEWILL) – On Friday, Iran launched a counterattack against Israel, firing dozens of ballistic missiles.
The retaliatory action came after Israel launched over 200 airstrikes on Iran in continuing of a major operation that began overnight, Israel Defence Forces spokesman, Brigadier General Effie Defrin, said.
While warning sirens sounded across Israel amid dozens of Iranian ballistic missiles, it warned residents to remain in bomb shelters until further notice.
Defrin said Israel had managed to intercept many of Iran’s UAVs.
“Throughout the day, we once again demonstrated our ability to remove threats in a coordinated, precise and daring manner”, Defrin said Friday night.
Israel first launched airstrikes on Iran early Friday, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, scientists and senior military commanders. The strikes killed the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Israel “should expect severe punishment” for the attack.
