March 07, (THEWILL) – A militant group in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Rescue Movement has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, threatening to blow up oil installations in the region if the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on Rivers State’s allocation is enforced.
The Supreme Court had restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing the state’s statutory monthly allocation, a decision that has sparked outrage in the region.
In a three-minute, 28-second video, the militants, armed with AK-47 rifles and other weapons, condemned the judgment and the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, warning of dire consequences if the state’s allocation is withheld.
“We will waste no time. Our response will be swift. We will shut down major oil installations in the Niger Delta,” the group threatened.
The militants also cautioned pro-Wike lawmakers against any move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning that such actions would plunge the state into further turmoil.
They urged non-indigenes residing in Rivers State to consider their safety and vacate the state, as tensions were set to escalate. The group further called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and restrain the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from interfering in the administration of Governor Fubara.
In the video, the group declared, “We, the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, wish to express our deep concern regarding the recent developments in Rivers State, which threaten the smooth governance of our beloved state under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“It has come to our attention that certain individuals, parading themselves as lawmakers, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the governor to present the 2025 state budget. This blatant attempt to destabilize the state is alarming and appears to be a coordinated effort to incite chaos, potentially leading to a state of emergency or even an impeachment.
“We call on President Bola Tinubu to intervene immediately and put a stop to the actions of Minister Nyesom Wike and his associates, whose intent is to drag Rivers State into an avoidable crisis. The people of Rivers State desire stability, progress, and a conducive environment for governance.
“Furthermore, we must make it abundantly clear that the youths of Rivers State will not sit idly while our state is thrown into turmoil. If the federal allocation due to Rivers State is not released promptly, we will be left with no choice but to take decisive action, including disrupting oil production.
“We cannot continue to generate revenue for the Federation Account while being denied our rightful share. Our workers deserve their salaries, and our government needs the necessary resources to execute essential development projects.
“We urge all non-indigenes in Rivers State to consider their safety and leave immediately, as the situation may escalate. We value the safety of all residents and hope for a peaceful resolution to this crisis. Enough is enough.
“We stand united for the peace and future of Rivers State. We demand respect from our leaders and a commitment to the development of our region.”
