March 12, (THEWILL) – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been denied access to the premises of the Rivers State House of Assembly Residential Quarters, where plenary takes place.
The lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, had earlier passed a resolution demanding the governor to re-present the 2025 budget.
However, when the governor arrived on Wednesday for the presentation, the gates of the Residential Quarters where the Amaewhule-led Assembly holds plenary were firmly locked.
Despite efforts made to get the attention of security at the post, nobody came to open the gates.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, the governor accused Speaker Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, stating that several calls placed to the lawmaker went unanswered.
He said, “I am here personally, this morning with a few members of the State Executive Council, to comply with the Supreme Court judgement.
“But it’s unfortunate that at the gate, as you can see, that the place is completely sealed, and there is no sign that anything is going to happen today.
“The reason why we are doing this, I have already said it, is the interest of Rivers people, which is the most important thing.
“Well, I don’t think there is anything to worry about. Maybe they are working on my letter, I expect to hear from them maybe after this hour.”
