March 03, (THEWILL) – The Action Peoples Party has expressed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the October 5, 2024, Rivers State Local Government election.
In a statewide broadcast on Sunday, Fubara directed outgoing council chairmen to hand over to Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, March 3, 2025.
The APP, which previously held 22 out of the 23 local government chairmanship positions in Rivers, described the governor’s decision as a demonstration of leadership and commitment to the rule of law.
In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Uche Nnadi, the party commended Fubara for upholding the court’s ruling and assured its members and supporters of victory in the next local government election.
The statement read, “Our party has closely followed the governor’s state broadcast, where he agreed to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict after reviewing the Certified True Copy of the judgment.
“We particularly commend his directive for Heads of Local Government Administration to immediately assume control of the 23 councils until fresh elections are conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.”
The party also threw its weight behind Fubara’s directive, instructing its outgoing chairmen to formally hand over to the designated administrators before the March 3 deadline.
Describing the governor’s decision as statesmanlike, the APP reaffirmed its determination to reclaim all 23 council seats in the upcoming election.
“We urge our party faithful to remain steadfast and support Fubara’s leadership. We are confident that when the local government election is conducted again, we will not only reclaim our previous seats but also win the remaining one,” the statement added.
