March 26, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has suspended all political appointees and heads of government agencies in the state with immediate effect.
A statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief of Staff said the suspension was in line with the powers conferred on him by President Bola Tinubu.
The affected officials include the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, all commissioners, chairpersons and members of boards, agencies, commissions, and institutions, as well as all special advisers, senior special assistants, and special assistants.
“The affected officials are directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries, departments, and agencies. Where there is no permanent secretary, they are to hand over to the most senior director or head of administration,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Ibas on Wednesday swore in a new Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, the administrator charged Prof. Worika to work with him in restoring order and stability to the state.
He said, “Prof. Worika’s appointment is not just an administrative decision; it is a statement of intent.
“His expertise in law, policy, and international governance aligns perfectly with our mission to restore law, order, integrity, and public trust in Rivers State. The task ahead is daunting, but your track record leaves no doubt that you will rise to the occasion.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent and accountable governance, emphasizing that every policy and decision must align with the mandate to stabilize the polity and restore democratic institutions.
“You have no time to settle in. You must roll up your sleeves and get to work immediately. Our civil servants, with whom we will work closely, are critical stakeholders. I urge them to cooperate fully as we strive to achieve our objectives,” he added.
