Robbers Attack Bullion Van In Imo

April 28, (THEWILL) – The Imo Police Command has confirmed a bullion van attack in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Micheal Abattam, said the bullion van was returning after delivering money when it was ambushed by hoodlums.

The driver on noticing it tried to escaped, unfortunately, his vehicle capsized. The Police noted that no money was carted away.

Abattam said the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers, with the assurance that they would be arrested.

A community source, Kennedy Onwunali, who narrated the incident to newsmen said the armed robbers attacked the bullion van returning to Owerri from Ogbor-Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the State.

He said the incident occurred around the popular General Hospital, Ogbor-Nguru around 1:30pm on Thursday.

According to the source, the robbers allegedly fired several shots at the van from Ahiara junction, all in a bid to intercept the vehicle, but it finally somersaulted at General Hospital, Ogbor-Nguru.

He said the brave driver of a new generation bank escaped death with a bank official and a police escort when the van somersaulted a bit far from the assailants.

The source also confirmed that the robbers were not able to loot the van because It was not carrying money.
