Rotimi Amaechi Resurfaces

Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi

September 22, (THEWILL) – The immediate past minister for transport, Rotimi Amaechi has returned to the limelight after a long absence from the public space. The former Rivers State governor will be gracing the annual The Niche Lecture series where he will delve into the enigmatic question of ‘Why we Stride and Slip: Leadership, Nationalism, and the Nigerian Condition.’ He is expected to captivate the audience and provide valuable perspectives with his insights.

The lecture, which is ‘The Niche’ newspaper’s contribution to national discourse, aimed at fostering the much-needed renaissance in the society, will take place next month at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Once very ebullient and one of the most powerful politicians during his second term as governor and during the tenure of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration, Amaechi recoiled into a cocoon after failing to clinch the 2023 presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the party’s primary last year. This was made further worse after his lackey, Tonye Cole, the governorship aspirant of the APC in Rivers State, failed to make an impact during the polls. On May 29, he reappeared briefly but quietly when he chose to attend the inauguration ceremony of Alex Otti, the Abia State governor rather than be at the Eagles Square for his party’s candidate, Bola Tinubu’s inauguration as president.

Save for experimenting with gospel singles, perhaps in a bid to chart a new career course as a gospel singer, Amaechi is rather contented with enjoying his own company and staying away from politics.
