November 11, (THEWILL) – Russia has refuted reports that Donald Trump held a call with Vladimir Putin, in which the US president-elect was said to have warned the Russian president against escalating the war in Ukraine.
The call, which was first reported by the Washington Post on Sunday, is said to have occurred on Thursday. Trump is also reported to have mentioned America’s “sizeable military presence in Europe” to Putin.
Describing the report as “pure fiction”, Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, on Monday, said Putin has no specific plans to speak to Trump at the present.
“This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it’s just false information. There was no conversation. This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications”, Peskov told reporters.
Asked if Putin had plans for any contact with Trump, Peskov said, “There are no concrete plans yet”.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, did not confirm the exchange.
Cheung told newsmen, upon inquiry, “We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders.”
Meanwhile, reports of Russian advances in Ukraine continue. Moscow’s defence ministry, on Monday, said that its forces had captured the village of Kolisnykivka in the Kharkiv region.
