December 01, (THEWILL) — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has directed all construction companies operating across the country to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of road signage at every construction site nationwide.
A statement signed on Monday by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Public Education Officer, said the order aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and rehabilitate the nation’s road network for safer and more efficient travel.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the directive as decisive and non-negotiable, stressing that every construction zone—whether active or inactive—must have adequate signs to guide motorists.
Mohammed said the move aims to protect road users from preventable accidents often caused by poor or nonexistent warning signs around construction areas. He criticised the recurring negligence by some contractors, noting that inadequate signage places motorists and pedestrians at significant risk.
To ensure full compliance, Mohammed has ordered all FRSC Commanding Officers nationwide to begin strict enforcement immediately. Field Commands, he said, will intensify monitoring of all construction zones, and any contractor found violating approved safety standards will face firm regulatory sanctions.
The Corps Marshal reinforced that the directive is final and enforceable, stressing that companies must continuously install, maintain, and update all necessary road signs throughout the duration of their projects.
Reaffirming the FRSC’s commitment to nationwide road safety, Mohammed assured that the Corps will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Federal Government’s investment in road infrastructure translates into safer and more secure journeys for all Nigerians.
