February 07, (THEWILL) – Former President Muhammadu Buhari has defended his tenure, insisting that Nigeria’s security and economy witnessed significant improvements during his eight years in office.
Buhari, who succeeded former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and left office in 2023, stated this on Wednesday when he received members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists at his country home in Daura.
Reflecting on the state of the nation before he assumed office, Buhari noted that Nigeria was grappling with serious security and economic challenges, but his administration took decisive steps to curb terrorism and stabilize the economy.
“Security and the economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015. Things will continue to improve in Nigeria,” he said.
He added that only those in power truly understand the challenges of governance, emphasising that the policies and strategies implemented by his administration addressed key national issues.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Yusuf Ibrahim-Jargaba, commended the former president for his efforts in tackling terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.
He also praised Buhari’s dedication to keeping the country united, stating that his hard work and selfless service played a crucial role in maintaining Nigeria’s stability.
