March 12, (THEWILL) — The Senate on Thursday adjourned plenary for the Sallah break, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirming that the 2026 Appropriation Bill is scheduled to be passed on March 31.
During plenary, Akpabio assured that committee work would continue during the recess, particularly ongoing budget defence sessions.
He urged the Senate leadership to ensure the Committee on Appropriations harmonises the report of the budget so that both chambers can avoid delays when plenary resumes.
“I hope the Leader will put pressure on the Committee on Appropriations to harmonise the report of the 2026 Appropriation by that date.
“This is so that when we resume, we can try our best to pass the budget and avoid any further concurrence or harmonisation between both chambers,” Akpabio said.
He also highlighted the need for coordination with the House of Representatives, which has adjourned its plenary but plans to conclude the budget process on the same day.
“Leadership must work together to ensure everything is in order. The House will meet on March 31, and what they pass must be in tandem with ours,” he added.
