September 08, (THEWILL) – The Senate Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the alleged economic sabotage in the Nigerian petroleum industry has postponed the public hearing, earlier scheduled to be held from Tuesday, September 10 to Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Chaired by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, the committee vowed to expose saboteurs in the petroleum sector and those responsible for importing toxic fuel into the country.
However, a statement signed by Bamidele said the postponement has become imperative considering the compelling need for wider consultations with expanded stakeholders, as well as prevailing realities in the country. This he said, was taken in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.
The statement reads: “The Senate Ad-hoc Committee to Investigate the Alleged Economic Sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry has unavoidably postponed the public hearing earlier scheduled to be held from Tuesday, 10th to Thursday, 12th September 2024.
“This decision was taken in the best interest of our fatherland and its teeming population.
“The postponement has become imperative considering the compelling need for wider consultations with expanded stakeholders within and without the petroleum industry, legislative exigencies to further deepen due diligence in the conduct of the investigative hearing and the prevailing realities in the country that demand urgent interventions of nearly all the stakeholders across 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory.
“While we deeply regret all inconveniences it may have caused you, the stakeholders, this decision was purely and solely taken in the national interest.
“We, therefore, assure all the stakeholders that a new date for the public hearing will be communicated in due course.
“For further inquiries about the public hearing, we advise that such should be directed to the Secretariat of the Ad-hoc Committee via +234 803 314 5481.”
