October 29, (THEWILL) – The Senate will on Tuesday, commence the screening of the seven new ministerial nominees appointed last Wednesday, by President Bola Tinubu.
The screening is in accordance with the Section 147 of the Nigerian constitution.
President Tinubu had in a move to reinvigorate his administration’s capacity to deliver on his promises to Nigerians, on Wednesday, fired seven Ministers and nominated seven others for immediate appointment into his cabinet.
The sacked Ministers included Barrister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
The ministerial nominees for Senate’s consideration and approval are Dr Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction); Muhammadu Dingyadi (Labour & Employment); Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State Foreign Affairs); Dr Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade and Investment); Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development); Yusuf Ata (State, Housing and Urban Development) and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad (State Education).
In a letter to the Red Chamber last Thursday, the President urged the lawmakers to consider the screening and confirmation of the ministerial nominees.
Special adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, said the nominees have submitted their credentials in accordance with the tradition of the National Assembly for the screening process which “commences on Tuesday, October 29, 2024”.
