October 08, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Senate has sworn in two new lawmakers to fill vacant seats in the upper chamber.
Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has assumed the Anambra South seat formerly occupied by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, while Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) now represents Edo Central, replacing Governor Monday Okpeboholo.
Welcoming the lawmakers, Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated them on their new roles and urged them to uphold the values of the legislature as well as the trust of the people they represent.
He further advised the senators to familiarize themselves with the Senate rule book and abide strictly by its provisions in the discharge of their duties.
With their swearing-in, the composition of the 10th Senate now stands at: APC — 71 seats; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — 28; Labour Party (LP) — 5; Social Democratic Party (SDP) — 2; APGA — 2; and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) — 1.
