March 11, (THEWILL) – The Senate has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize bye-elections to fill the vacant seats representing Edo Central and Anambra South senatorial districts.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the call during plenary on Tuesday while officially declaring both seats vacant.
The Edo Central seat became vacant following the inauguration of Monday Okpebholo as Governor of Edo State in November 2024, while the Anambra South seat has remained unoccupied since the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024.
INEC had previously stated in January 2025 that it was awaiting an official request from the Senate before proceeding with the Anambra South bye-election.
With both senatorial districts currently lacking representation, Akpabio urged the electoral commission to expedite the process, emphasizing the need for affected constituents to have a voice in the Senate.
