May 08, (THEWILL) — The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has clarified the correct official appellation of President Bola Tinubu and urged media organisations and the public to correct recurring errors in his designation across publications.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga, and personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to the statement, the directive became necessary following an observed error in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
Akume expressed concern over repeated inaccuracies in the way the President’s official title is presented in some media reports, stressing that such lapses undermine official protocol and could be avoided through proper verification from authorised government sources.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’”, the statement read.
The SGF, therefore, ordered immediate correction of the erroneous references and urged media organisations, institutions, and the general public to ensure strict adherence to the approved designation in all official communications.
He further advised that verification of official titles and government information could be obtained through the OSGF’s verified communication platforms, including its Facebook page @OfficeoftheSGF, Instagram handle @OfficialOSGFNG, X (formerly Twitter) @OfficialOSGF, and email info@osgf.gov.ng.
Akume reiterated that accurate representation of public office holders is essential to maintaining institutional integrity and respect for state protocol, warning that avoidable errors in official nomenclature should no longer persist.
