April 28, (THEWILL) – Vice President Kashim Shettima and Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, formally received Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the party on Monday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Also on ground to receive the defectors were governors of Nasarawa, Imo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kogi, Gombe, Lagos, Benue and Yobe, Reps Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, and Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
THEWILL had reported that Governor Oborevwori, former governor Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in Delta State, on Wednesday, resolved to join the APC.
Speaking during the ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori declared support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“What you have seen here today is a movement, not a defection. We have consulted stakeholders at all levels. Mr President has shown us love. We cannot face him in 2027 to work against him. When you consult widely, you can see that the love is organic.
“All our members in the Delta State House of Assembly have agreed to defect. The state exco, council chairmen, counsellors, LG chairmen, and others are all moving to the APC”, he said.
