December 25, (THEWILL) — Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their defection in separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House, Bashar Aliyu Gummi.
Those who defected are Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi I Constituency), Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Bashir Bello (Bungudu West), Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), and Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North).
In the letters dated December 24, 2025, the lawmakers cited lingering and unresolved internal crises within the PDP, which they said had resulted in factional leadership and instability in the party. They stated that their decision to leave the PDP was taken after careful consideration and in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The legislators also criticised the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, alleging negligence in addressing security challenges in the state and failure to fulfil key campaign promises.
“I, therefore, found it expedient to make this decision voluntarily”, each of the lawmakers stated in their respective letters, pledging allegiance to the APC.
The Speaker acknowledged receipt of the defection letters during plenary, noting that the development would be formally recorded in the proceedings of the House.
