April 18, (THEWILL) – The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has described Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, as a social media candidate who cannot win the election.
Speaking during a media chat on Friday in Abuja, Wike said that as a politician, he focuses on analysing candidates with the capacity to win, rather than those perceived to be popular online.
He said winning elections in Nigeria involves more than just being the most qualified or popular on social media platforms.
When asked why he didn’t support Peter Obi in the last general election, Wike said the former Anambra governor “has no chance to win the election.
“I don’t go to where you see people like this kind of social media candidate. I don’t do social media candidate. I sit down as a politician, and I analyse the candidate who is likely to win. In politics, it’s not always right that okay, this is the best candidate.
“Nigerians today, in their politics, so many factors come in and I have always told people this… Whether it is correct or not is a different thing.. Look at how Tinubu won. Mind you, whether APC likes it or not, it was very turbulent for Tinubu to have scaled through that election. His own Party administration, you could see, people don’t want to speak the truth, before that election put in things that would have made him fail the election woefully.
“The fuel crisis, the Naira issue, it was terrible. No Party in Government at that time will bring such a policy when you know you are running an election, but everything was done, and he survived it. So that’s how you will know there are people, first of all, God is on their side, and two, they know this game.”
