November 14, (THEWILL) – The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Students’ Forum in Sokoto State has refuted allegations of financial misappropriation leveled against the Special Adviser on Students Affairs to the state Governor, Abubakar Salame.
The accusations surfaced after some students alleged that while the state government approved tuition fee payments for 5,994 students at the university, only 5,290 students had reportedly received their payments, leaving 774 students unpaid.
Dissatisfied, some students accused Salame of mismanaging funds allocated for their fees, despite the governor’s directive to ensure full payment.
However, in a recent statement signed by Ra’is Umar and Shu’aibu Nasir, Chairman, and Secretary, respectively, of the 23 Local Government Forum of Coordinators in UDUS, the forum dismissed the allegations as “baseless and ill-informed.”
“As representatives of Sokoto State students across the 23 local government areas in UDUS, we feel obligated to clarify these unfounded accusations,” the statement said.
According to the forum, the coalition of student coordinators was actively involved in the committee established by the state government to verify students’ identities and oversee the fair distribution of scholarship funds, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
The forum maintained that it was fully aware of the procedures and safeguards that were followed in the disbursement process, adding that Salame had acted in line with the committee’s mandate to uphold the governor’s directive.
