May 27, (THEWILL) – Banex Plaza, a telecommunications gadgets market in Abuja, reopened on Monday afternoon, following the withdrawal of military personnel from the shopping hub.
The Plaza, located in the Wuse 2 neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory, has been occupied for more than a week by the Nigerian Army, following a confrontation between suspected thugs and some soldiers.
THEWILL reported that the plaza was closed after an incident involving personnel from the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police and traders at the plaza.
According to reports, military authorities took over the market on Saturday, May 18, after the violent clash.
The incident began when military personnel approached a trader regarding a phone issue. A disagreement over the phone matter quickly escalated into a full-blown conflict.
According to reports, the reopening of the plaza was agreed upon after successful resolutions between the traders involved in the altercations and military authorities.
Eyewitness reports revealed that the plaza was reopened on Monday afternoon.
