March 28, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on heads of paramilitary agencies to strengthen collaboration with security forces to maintain law and order across the state.
Speaking on Friday during a meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas stressed that sustainable development and business growth are impossible in an atmosphere of insecurity and unrest.
He urged the security agencies to enhance intelligence sharing, promote community policing, and adopt dialogue at the grassroots level to tackle security threats, including kidnapping, illegal bunkering, and communal conflicts.
He stated, “I have been given the mandate to restore law and order in Rivers State. However, this is not a task I can accomplish alone.
“I want to assure you that the government will support your efforts in delivering on this mandate. I also understand that you rely on support from your respective services to carry out your daily operations. But I believe that if we can significantly reduce insecurity, resources will be freed up to develop both our institutions and the state,” he added.
Ibas further directed security agencies to closely monitor vehicles without registered plate numbers or those with concealed plates, warning that such activities pose a potential threat to the state’s security.
In his remarks, the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Rivers State Command, Mr. Felix Madumere, pledged the agency’s continued commitment to supporting efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Administrator has approved the payment of March salaries for all civil servants, public servants, pensioners, and suspended political appointees.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, directed the Accountant-General to ensure prompt disbursement of the payments without delay.
The statement read, “In keeping with the commitment made to the good people of Rivers State, the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, has approved the payment of March 2025 salaries for all civil servants, public servants, pensioners, and all suspended political appointees in the Rivers State Government.
“The Administrator has further instructed the Accountant-General to ensure that these payments are processed and remitted without any delay.”
